It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
For the third year in a row, Dickson Nerbas Interior Design will be participating in the Sheep River Health Trust’s Avenue of Trees. The Avenue of Trees is a fundraising event that benefits health and wellness initiatives in the Foothills, focusing on the Health Trust’s 5 Pillars: Families, Children and Youth, Seniors, Medical Equipment, and Community Care Programs. Funding highlights from last year’s event include support for school meal programs in 10 schools and contributions toward both the Okotoks Health and Wellness Urgent Care renovation and the acquisition of a bladder scanner. In all, 14 local programs benefited from the live and online auction of 40 Christmas trees.
This year, tree set up happens November 14th and 15th and trees will be on display at the Okotoks Recreation Centre until December 15th. Out of the 40 trees decorated, 10 will be chosen to participate in the live auction at the Mistletoe Market on Saturday, December 15th at 1:00 pm. Trees not selected for the live auction will be auctioned off through silent bid. Each tree will be pictured online for bidding at www.elevateauctions/aveoftrees2018.
The 2018 theme for my entry into the Avenue of Trees will be Bohemian Yuletide. For the past two years, my trees have been more formal and traditionally Christmas-y in both theme and color. This year I hope to create a tree that looks a little looser, a little more undone, and a lot more fun- an explosion of color and texture. Think Etsy and Anthropologie. As a designer who is used to having things “just so”, it will be a bit of a challenge for me to let go of my need for having a place for everything and everything in its place. But hey, outside your comfort zone is where the magic happens, right? Right.
Now get down to the Okotoks Recreation Centre, pick your favorite tree, and bid online or at the Mistletoe Market live auction on December 15th!
